To the parents and or guardian of incoming students:

When accidents or illnesses occur during school hours, students must report to the nurse's office in the administration building.  Emergency care will be given according to the standing orders and the student's emergency health card.  No meds can be given without  an updated emergency card on file every school year.  When possible the student should report to class before going to the nurse as per attendance policy.  Missing class with and excuse of illness, unless one has visited the nurses office will be treated as a truancy. Students will not be allowed to go home unless parental, guardian or emergency contact of parents choice consent is obtained.  Any student excused from PE or athletics by a DR. must be released by the same before participating in the activity again.  Students that have been absent from school with an infectious or contagious disease must have a release and check back through the nurse's office before returning to school.

According to state policy nurses are not allowed to give medication without a drs order. Students who require medications at school will be assisted under the following guidelines. The medication must be prescribed by a DR and there must be a copy of the written order on file for the medication each school year. Parental consent must be obtained in writing using a school consent form. The medication must be in the original prescription bottle and brought to school by the parent and or guardian. Medication will not be accepted from students. Most pharmacies will make a separate bottle for the school when asked to. By law the nurse can not make a medical diagnosis or prescribe treatment. There is no x-ray machine at the school. If injuries such as a possible fracture, burn, or laceration occur at home take your child to their dr and or emergency room. Do not wait to see the school nurse.

Medication such as tylenol, advil, tums, cough medication can be given at school if an updated emergency health card is on file each school year. Telephone consent is not accepted.

The following will be offered during the school year. A vision and hearing screening to all incoming freshman to assist you in detecting potential problems. Immunizations will be provided free on campus for all students with parental consent. A free health care clinic will be offered for students who do not have insurance. A nurse practioner comes one day a week and can assist students with acute and chronic illness. Application forms are available in the nurses office in english and spanish.

I look forward to assisting your students to receive the best possible educational opportunity and to help them succeed in obtaining their future goals. My office is open from 0730am to 300pm for parents.

If you would like to volunteer in the nurse's office please call 623-435-6203 and leave a message and the nurse will call you back.
